EDW Foundation Launches “Raking It In” Ad Urging Long Islanders to Tell Rep. Laura Gillen to Keep Holding Insurance Companies Accountable

Published: Aug 15, 2026

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The cost of groceries, gas, and health care keeps rising for women across Long Island while insurance companies continue to report record profits. That contrast is the focus of “Raking It In,” a television and digital ad the EDW Foundation launched today across New York’s Fourth Congressional District. The ad urges constituents to tell Rep. Laura Gillen to keep fighting to lower the cost of healthcare.

The ad highlights Gillen’s work to require insurance companies to cover the care a patient’s doctor says is needed, cut through red tape that delays or denies care, end surprise medical bills, and cap insurance premiums.

The ad also urges continued support for H.R. 3514, the bipartisan Improving Seniors’ Timely Access to Care Act of 2025. The bill would modernize prior authorization in Medicare Advantage by requiring electronic processing, establishing faster decisions for routinely approved care, and increasing public reporting on delays and denials.

Women feel these failures first. Insured women are more likely to have a plan refuse to cover a prescription or charge a steep co-pay, deny a test or scan recommended by their doctor, or send a bill for care they believed was covered. Nearly half of women carry debt from medical or dental bills. Holding insurance companies accountable is both a health care issue and a kitchen-table economic issue for Long Island women.

“If your doctor says you need care, your insurance company should cover it. It is that simple,” said former Rep. Annie Kuster, an EDW Foundation board member. “Rep. Laura Gillen has been working to hold insurance companies accountable. We are urging Long Islanders to tell her to keep fighting.”
