EDW Foundation Launches “People Over Profits” Ad Urging Oregonians to Tell Rep. Janelle Bynum to Keep Holding Insurance Companies Accountable

Published: Aug 15, 2026

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The EDW Foundation has launched “People Over Profits,” a digital and television campaign running across Oregon’s Fifth Congressional District that urges constituents to tell Rep. Janelle Bynum to keep fighting to make healthcare more affordable, a priority of the Foundation.

The ad highlights Bynum’s work to reform insurance companies by requiring them to cover the care a patient’s doctor says is needed without forcing patients through bureaucratic hoops, capping prescription co-pays, lowering insurance premiums, and banning surprise medical bills.

The ad also urges continued support for H.R. 3514, the bipartisan Improving Seniors’ Timely Access to Care Act of 2025, which Bynum cosponsored. The bill would modernize prior authorization in Medicare Advantage by requiring electronic processing, establishing faster decisions for routinely approved services, and increasing public reporting on delays and denials.

Women more often manage not only their own health care but also care for children, parents, and other loved ones, while absorbing more of the financial burden. Nearly half of women carry debt from medical or dental bills. Insured women are more likely to have a plan, refuse to cover a prescription, charge a steep co-pay, or bill them for care they thought was covered.

“No woman should have to spend her evening on the phone arguing for care her doctor has already prescribed,” said former Rep. Annie Kuster, an EDW Foundation board member. “Women are getting stuck with surprise bills, denied prescriptions, and rising premiums that make managing everyday costs impossible. Rep. Janelle Bynum is fighting to change that, and we are urging her constituents to tell her to keep at it.”
